INTRODUCTION

Most older homes in Houston were built with gas lines sized for just two things: a small furnace and a 40-gallon water heater. Today, homeowners are adding massive appliances like Whole-Home Generators, Tankless Water Heaters, and Pool Heaters.

If you try to run these modern beasts on your original 1980s piping, they will starve. The result? Your generator stalls during a hurricane, or your tankless heater throws an “Error 11” code (Ignition Failure) while you’re in the shower. At Blackmon Plumbing, we don’t just run pipe; we perform BTU Load Calculations to guarantee your system delivers the volume and pressure your home needs.

When Do You Need a Gas Line Replacement?

It’s not always about adding new toys. Sometimes, the old pipes are simply dead.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Q: Will you tear up my driveway?

A: Usually, no. For underground lines crossing driveways, we use directional boring technology to run the pipe underneath the concrete without breaking it.

Q: How much does a gas line cost?

A: It is priced by the linear foot and the difficulty of access (attic vs. trench). We provide a firm, flat-rate price upfront.

Q: My pressure is low. Do I need a repipe?

A: Possibly, or you may just need a regulator adjustment. We perform a “Manometer Test” to check the pressure at each appliance before recommending a replacement.

Q: Can you install gas lines for outdoor kitchens?

A: Yes. We trench and install underground Polyethylene lines to supply outdoor grills, fire pits, and pizza ovens. We coordinate with your outdoor kitchen contractor to ensure proper placement and sizing.

Q: What’s the difference between CSST and Black Iron?

A: CSST (Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing) is flexible and can be snaked through walls with fewer joints. Black Iron is rigid steel pipe required for exposed exterior connections and meter stub-outs. We use the right material for each application based on code requirements and access.
