Homes built before 1980 often use Galvanized Steel gas lines. Over time, the zinc coating flakes off internally, clogging your gas valves with rust dust and creating pinhole leaks at the joints.

Old steel pipes buried in Houston’s wet clay soil eventually corrode. If you smell gas in your yard, the line is likely porous and needs a total replacement with non-corrosive Polyethylene.

You bought a 199,000 BTU Tankless unit, but you only have a 1/2-inch gas line. You must upgrade to a 3/4-inch or 1-inch line to make it work.
